Visit: Gloucestershire Archives

Founded in 1936, Gloucestershire Archives mission is to gather, keep and share historic archive collections and local and family history resources relating to Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire, making them available for research.  A local authority archive they provide an Archives service for Gloucestershire County Council and South Gloucestershire Council as well as the Diocesan of Gloucester and are an approved repository for Public Records.  They believe that archives matter they are our unique, authentic, trustworthy, collective memory; they underpin our identities, and support informed decision-making, transparency and accountability. 

Located in the heart of Gloucester in the Gloucestershire Heritage Hub, they provide an invaluable service to the public along with their on-site partners including Gloucestershire Family History Society, Gloucestershire Police Archives, the Victoria County History for Gloucestershire and the copy certificates team of the County Registration Service.
   

At the Archives and Records Association Conference on 28 August 2025, Gloucestershire Archives was announced as the winner of the ARA Excellence Award - Record Keeping Service of the Year 2025.
