The Jesuits in Britain Archives is a private collection based at the offices of the Society of Jesus in Mayfair, next to the famous Farm Street Church. The Archives primarily hold records created by and relating to members of the British province, which encompasses England, Scotland, Wales. Historically it also included South Africa and Guyana. There is also a large rare books collection and administrative records of Jesuit churches, communities and institutions. Much of the material dates from the 19th century onwards following Catholic emancipation, but there are also records of importance to the early English mission, which began in the late 16th century with the arrival of St Edmund Campion SJ. On display will be some highlights from our collection as well as examples of sources that may be useful for those conducting genealogical enquiries.
