Home is where so much of our family history happened, yet the everyday lives of our ancestors can easily be overlooked. From the warmth of the kitchen hearth to the weekly washday, family meals, household chores and special celebrations, our ancestors' homes were at the heart of family life. But what was life really like behind those front doors?

With Christmas approaching, perhaps you have memories or family stories of festive preparations, homemade decorations, traditional foods or the excitement of Christmas morning. How did our ancestors celebrate, and how did their traditions differ from our own? Or perhaps you have photographs of family gatherings, memories of a childhood home, or stories about the routines and rituals that shaped everyday life.

Join SoG Volunteer Margaret Roberts for a facilitated lunchtime chat exploring life at home, both ordinary and extraordinary. Share your family stories, memories and discoveries, and tell us what photographs, documents, household objects, or other sources have revealed about domestic life in the past. Bring along photographs or images to share on screen with fellow attendees.

So put down your Christmas cards, take a break from the festive preparations, grab a mince pie and settle down for a chat.
