Teachers: finding records beyond the census with Valerie Brenton

Ever wondered where a teacher taught or how they trained to become a certified teacher. This talk will explain briefly how the law regarding education changed during the 19th century and how that impacted the quality and quantity of teachers needed in England and Wales. The main focus will be providing examples as to what records may still exist online and at archives, together with two case studies, to help you add a variety of local and personal details to the family history of a pupil teacher or teacher found on the census.
