RootsTech Watch Party: New Ancestor Connector Tool with 21,000 19th-century People Researched

RootsTech is the world’s largest family history conference, bringing together genealogists and family historians from around the globe through a free programme of online talks and presentations alongside a conference in Salt Lake City.

Join fellow Society of Genealogists members for a RootsTech Watch Party and enjoy the conference together in a friendly, shared online setting. Rather than watching alone, members come together on Zoom to experience selected RootsTech talks as a group.

Participants will join the Zoom meeting around 15 minutes before the RootsTech session begins, giving everyone time to chat informally, say hello, and set the scene for the talk. Once the presentation starts, members can use the Zoom typed chat to share comments, observations, and questions in real time while watching.

Whether you’re new to family history or a seasoned researcher, using this powerful new tool will make new connections possible. The Ancestor Connector links your FamilySearch account to a unique database of over 21,000 individuals, documented through more than 14,000 digitized primary-source records from the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and the Pacific Islands.
The research for these individuals, completed by trained genealogists, also includes their spouses, parents, and children, multiplying your potential discoveries to hundreds of thousands.
In this session, a researcher, technologist, and historian will show you how Ancestor Connector can lead you to your relatives, help you explore their records, and deepen your understanding of their lives. You’ll learn how to link through FamilySearch, navigate the database, and access sources drawn from 55,000 pages of transcribed historical documents. Discover how this groundbreaking tool can enrich your personal family history.

After the talk has finished, the Zoom meeting remains open for a relaxed group discussion. This is a chance to reflect on what you’ve heard, exchange ideas, and explore how the themes of the talk relate to your own genealogical interests and research.

RootsTech Watch Parties are designed to combine the rich content of RootsTech with the sense of community and shared learning that the Society of Genealogists offers.
