The Civil War in 100 Objects with Andrew Hopper

This talk will discuss what new insights the history of objects can offer on the civil wars, giving us glimpses into the human experiences behind historic events in an upside-down world. Drawing on some famous objects and some less well known, the talk will include documents of special interest to genealogists such as the National Covenant, the Protestation, the death warrant of Charles I, petitions and loss accounts, as well as iconic objects such as statues, portraits and the wheelchair of the parliamentarian commander in chief.

Andrew will be drawing on the research in his book, 'The Civil Wars in 100 Objects', published in 2025.
