Richard John Balson, the current owner of R J Balson & Son, is the 25th generation of Balson to run the family butchery business in Bridport, Dorset. Currently trading from 9 West Allington, their home since 1892, the shop has changed since the good old days of the horse and cart and no refrigeration. Richard will be sharing personal memories of living and working in West Allington, and everything he learnt from working with his late father, Donald, for over 45 years. Reaching a Quincentennial anniversary is a remarkable achievement; the first time any British family firm has reached this milestone. The future is bright and the Balson’s look forward to the next 500 years with future generations carrying on the family business.
