Julian Pooley and Jill Hyams of Surrey History Centre will explain how their public search room operates: opening hours; booking; the Archives Card; finding aids; document ordering, and also their rich repository of online resources, including the Exploring Surrey’s Past website.

Julian and Jill will also talk about boundary changes in northeast Surrey which can affect where to find records of your ancestors, and discuss family history sources, including records from psychiatric and learning disability hospitals and coroner’s inquest papers for eastern Surrey districts, Surrey quarter sessions, the East Surrey Regiment and the Royal Philanthropic School at Redhill, along with east Surrey newspapers, the Gentleman’s Magazine project and the photographic archive of George and Herbert Bunce of Caterham and Purley.

We will also learn how A Vision of Britain Through Time can help you to research in East Surrey.
