Six Hats for Genetic Genealogy

The Genealogical Six Hats method for decision making in family history research can be invaluable when tackling a complex research problem. Adapted from an original method by Edward de Bono, this approach involves a series of imaginary coloured ‘hats’, each representing a crucial aspect of thought. By cycling through the hats one or more times, we can reach a balanced and reasonable conclusion about the evidence in front of us.

But how should we apply the Six Hats method when working on genetic rather than archival problems? In this session, we’ll use a DNA-based case study to apply the Hats to a genetic genealogy investigation – and show how it relates to the critical questions we must ask when making decisions relating to DNA evidence.

Practical, fun and accessible, this session is suitable for novices and seasoned genealogists alike.

This live workshop will not be recorded so that you feel comfortable taking part.
