Using Family Tree Maker

Learn how to create your tree, record individuals and the facts about their lives within this popular family history software package Family Tree Maker. Learn how to sort your information into ways that are meaningful to you.

Learn some of the more advanced options and customisations available to help you record your research, and explore ways to publish and share your family tree

This course will show you how you can merge family trees from Ancestry or FamilySearch into Family Tree Maker. We will look at importing trees to create a new tree in FTM and at how to incorporate or exclude information given as hints.

Once you have entered your information into Family Tree Maker there are several ways you can extract the data to share it with others. This course will look many of the charts and reports available to FTM users and will look at the ways in which the reports and charts can be personalised to meet your requirements.

One of the most important steps all family historians should take when they add information to their tree is to record where the data came from. Knowing where the data was found allows you, and others, to return to that source to re-validate it, if necessary, and assure yourself that it is correct. This course will show you where to record this information in FTM and will discuss ways that FTM lets you record source details.
