Is there a surgeon in your family tree?
Did one or more of your ancestors qualify from the Royal College of Surgeons of England as a Member, Fellow, naval or military surgeon, or a dental surgeon?
If so, we may be able to help you find out more about them.
RCS England is an examining body for surgical and dental professionals in the UK. Founded in 1745 as the Company of Surgeons, the College gained its Royal title when it was granted a Charter in 1800. Their archives holds unique records on surgeons within the UK and Ireland from the mid-18th century to the early century, including examination books, apprenticeship registers and photographs.
They also hold series of historic patient case notes which can be a valuable and rich resource for genealogy.
